Even if your bath is not as large as you’d like it to be, you can still make the most of what you have. Think about your design style. If your bath is original to the house or is vintage, while you prefer contemporary, a change is in order. Your master bath should reflect the color and style of your master bedroom. To compliment the master bedroom’s zen retreat design we went with an Asian flair.
Our Asian experience includes a warm neutral palette with large golden brown stone look tiles, an espresso vanity, a creamy wall color and a mosaic border in the shower to bring all the colors together. The bath has great color harmony, with the cabinetry in a contrast for a pop of color. The floor tiles have been installed on the diagonal. Not only does this add interest but visually the diamond points elongate the tiles, pushing the walls outward and creating the illusion of space.
Mirrors not only reflect your image, but they multiple what they reflect, especially lighting. With a decorative framed mirror and mirrored medicine cabinet the bath is illuminating. The reflections of the room continue, adding depth to the space.
The lighting has a distinctive Asian style, reminiscent of lanterns suspended from a graceful arc. The brushed metal is repeated in the faucet and accessories, for a gently aged feel.
The graceful slope of the sink softens the squareness of the countertop. This one piece console is perfect for a zen, uncluttered feel. The simple faucet is more dramatic with its graceful arch and cross handles controls. A complimentary soap dispenser and towel holder add function and style.
The espresso vanity is rich in color and design. The simple slab drawers and doors are enhanced with brushed metal pulls in a contemporary style and frosted glass doors were installed for a lighter touch. Frosted glass obscures the items stored within, including plumbing. Multiple drawers give this vanity lots of organized storage.
Who doesn’t need more storage? We added a wall cabinet in the same rich espresso and matching frosted glass doors. For a finished, furniture effect, the cabinet includes recessed side panels and crowning trim with beading at the top.
For a simple look and ease of cleaning, a white shower base was installed. No grout joints and subtle slip resistance. The white color choice is a repeat of the countertop, toilet and sink.
The walls are tiled in an over-sized brick. The running bond pattern adds visual width to the showers space. The stoney pattern of the tiles not only adds color and style but also hides water spots and soapy smudges in between cleaning. A shower curtain is a great way to accent your design with color and pattern. Today’s shower curtain rods are more decorative and come in finishes to match your faucet and are a great cost savings when compared to glass shower doors.
What a great shower! This showerhead features a rain shower spray and if you look closely it’s the center spray that is the handheld. This dual function gives you added features without the clutter of separate heads and controls.
Don’t forget the niches. We’ve used two for easy access to lots of toiletries. The decorative glass mosaic border runs around the walls and through the niches in complimentary colors. A second smaller border wraps the walls in a final burst of color and pattern.
Don’t forget the accessories. For Zen style we placed a few Asian accent pieces around the room.
Success! We transformed this bath to compliment the bedroom for a harmonious master suite. What could more Zen than that?
